Housing Support at Mid Sussex YMCA

Here are a few words from young people who we have helped in the past

“My Support Worker visited me on a regular basis.  They helped me with letters, job interviews and phoned me regularly to see if I was ‘ok’ as I was going through a stressful time in my life.”

“Since I have received floating support I have managed to sort out repairs that needed doing for my flat.  I feel the project has helped me gain in confidence for example I am now able to phone places myself e.g. housing officer, which I couldn’t do before.”

“My Support Worker is great, before they came along forms and benefits were a nightmare, now I know if I have a problem I have someone to help me with it.”

“The project has helped me get equipment for my daughter like a cot, baby monitors, high chair, blankets and bedding. I also have more ideas about my rights as a tenant and would recommend the service to other young people.”

“I was having problems with my housing benefit claim as I was at college and Housing Benefit deemed me ineligible even though I had been claiming it at the hostel.  My Student Welfare Officer introduced me to the project.  After some investigation and many letters we found that I was eligible for Housing Benefit.  Without the support I wouldn’t have realised this and would have either been evicted from my flat or had to have left college.  Since then I have left college with ‘A levels’ and I am currently working full time where I am studying an N.V.Q. in Service and Hospitality.”

“Having a support worker has been amazing, They come and visit me once a week and have helped me get a cooker, fridge freezer and beds. My Support Worker also stopped me from going insane, I feel I can talk to them about anything.”
